Collection QR Code
* Please note, we're still in the process of rolling out the QR collection code, so it may not apply to all vehicle sales at this stage.
When arranging collection, the dealer can choose one of two options. They can book Motorway's in-house transport service, Motorway Move, where we will handle the collection logistics for you, or, they can arrange the collection themselves directly with you.
If they select Motorway Move, our QR code collection process does not apply to you. If they arrange the collection themselves, the information below applies to you.
Q. What happens on the day of collection?
Once your collection is booked, let us know the collection date so we can help you on the day. Once this is confirmed, you'll get access to your unique collection QR code.
This gives both you and the driver full access to your vehicle details, including any wear and tear you’ve already declared. It also gives you instant access to the Motorway team, who are on hand if you have any questions or issues.
The collection process typically takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, although this will vary from dealer to dealer. We advise you to have your car cleaned and presented exactly as you photographed and described it. The collection involves a two-part process:
- Inspection and check: The dealer will check your car to ensure it matches the details and photos you shared. This involves a look over the bodywork, interior, and general mechanics. It may involve a short test drive and the use of OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) readers. Both you and the driver will be able to see all your vehicle details, including any wear and tear you’ve already declared, so everyone is on the same page during the inspection.
- Payment and paperwork: Once the dealer is satisfied that the car is as described, they will make the payment (and clear any outstanding finance, if applicable) and take the vehicle away. If there’s undeclared wear and tear, the dealer might need to adjust the final price to account for it. Funds may take up to 2 hours to get to your account, depending on the transfer method used and your bank's processing times. See here to get more information on payments.
- Reminder: Notify the DVLA once the car has been collected. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it. This is important as the legal responsibility falls to the seller of the vehicle.
- For any help during the collection, call our Driveway Support Team on 0203 977 0166. You’ll also be able to contact Motorway directly after your QR code has been scanned.
Q. What is the collection QR code for?
- Once your sale is confirmed, you’ll receive a unique QR collection code sent by email or text message. This gives both you and the driver full access to your vehicle details, including any wear and tear you’ve already declared, so everyone is on the same page during the inspection.
- On the day of collection, you need to show the driver your unique collection QR code to begin the collection process. This also gives you instant access to the Motorway team, who are on hand if you have any questions or issues.
Q. Where can I find my collection QR code?
- Your unique collection QR code will be sent to you by email after you’ve confirmed your sale. You’ll also receive a reminder by text message or push notification on the day of the collection. Simply show the QR code to the driver to begin the collection process.
Q. What happens when the collection driver scans the collection QR code?
- On the day of collection, ask the driver to scan your unique collection QR code to begin the collection process. This gives you and the driver full visibility of your car’s details, so you can see all the information in one place. You also have instant access to the Motorway team – we’re on hand if you have any questions or issues.
- Step 1 – Start collection: When the collection driver arrives, ask them to scan your QR code. This initiates the collection for you, the driver, and the team at Motorway.
- Step 2 – See your vehicle details: Both you and the driver see all your vehicle details during the inspection process. This includes any wear and tear you’ve already reported, so everyone’s on the same page. If there are any issues, contact us in just one tap, right on the driveway.
- Step 3 – Complete the sale: Your sale is complete! Simply hand over your keys and documents, and payment is made before the driver leaves with your car.
Q. Why do I need to show the unique collection QR code?
- On the day of collection, ask the driver to scan your unique collection QR code to begin the collection process.
- Scanning the code begins the collection for you, the driver, and the team at Motorway. This lets both you and the driver see all your vehicle details during the inspection process. It also gives instant access to the Motorway team, who are on hand if you have any questions or issues.
- This helps ensure the collection process is as smooth as possible and allows everyone to see the same information about your vehicle, so everyone is prepared for the inspection.
Q. What if I can't find my unique collection QR code?
- We're gradually rolling out an updated collection process, so not everyone will receive a QR code yet. If you received an email from us about a unique collection QR code, you will find a link to the QR code in that email. Alternatively, you can check your profile on the Motorway website or app. There you will find a link to your unique collection QR code.
Q. What if my purchasing dealer has booked Motorway Move?
No problem. If your purchasing dealer has booked Motorway Move, you won't need a QR code. On the day of collection, you can simply access your vehicle profile through the Motorway app as usual.
