What should I do about my road tax and insurance?

Your vehicle remains your responsibility until the vehicle has been collected and paid for, so you should not cancel your insurance and tax, or transfer your V5C until the sale has been concluded.

When you register the 'Change of Keeper' with the DVLA following the sale, you should be automatically issued a refund for any outstanding vehicle tax. This will typically take 4-6 weeks to process. If you do not receive your refund within this time, we recommend you contact the DVLA directly.
