We can sell the car. You need to be the person named in the grant of probate or letter of administration, or have permission from them to continue.
If you’re named in the grant and want to sell, you need:
- A copy of the grant of probate, or grant letter of administration
- Your own photo ID such as a passport or driving licence
If you are not named in the grant, but are selling on behalf of the person who is, you also need:
- A signed letter of authority from the person named in the grant, or a solicitor, confirming:
- The car forms part of the estate
- You (named) have the right to sell on behalf of the estate
- Where funds should be paid to
If your letter is from a named executor:
- A copy of that named executor’s ID
If you are not named in the grant, and can’t provide proof of authority as described above, we can’t continue.
