What to do if there is a will, and probate has not been granted yet
We can sell the car. You must either be the executor named in the will or have the executor’s permission to continue.
If you are named executor and want to sell your vehicle, you need to provide:
- A copy of the will, showing the named executors
- A copy of the death certificate
- Your own photo ID such as a passport or driving licence
If you’re not named executor but selling on their behalf, you also need:
- A signed letter of authority from one named executor, or a solicitor, confirming:
- The car forms part of the estate
- You (named) have the right to sell on behalf of the estate
- Where funds should be paid to
If your letter is from a named executor:
- A copy of that named executor’s ID
If you are not an executor, and can’t confirm that you have the right to sell as described above, then we can’t continue.
