Can I sell a deceased person's car without service history?
If you can't find the service history, you can still sell the car.
But don’t worry – you might be able to get copies of the service history, even if you can’t find the originals.
Please note that service history is key for selling the vehicle for the best price. A good service history record can help increase the value of your offers.
If you know where the car was serviced
Contact the garage who worked on the car; they might be able to give you copies of your service history records.
If you don’t know where the car was serviced
Use the DVLA’s online MOT check.
Just enter the vehicle reg – within the results, you’ll see links to view test locations.
If you enter the V5C's reference number (an 11-digit number on the front of the document), you can see where the MOTs were carried out.
If the car had its service and MOT at the same garage, you might be able to get the service history from them.
