How do I keep private number plates after a bereavement?
To keep the private plates of someone who has deceased, you need to send a form to DVLA, along with documents that prove you have the right to use the number.
The process following a bereavement is different to a normal retention, so please read more about this DVLA process here.
Retaining the private plate and returning the car to its standard registration will require you to obtain a new V5C logbook with the new reg number.
You need this to sell the car, so we recommend doing this before selling to avoid any delays once you have a deal agreed.
