Why do I have to upload the will and death certificate when selling on Motorway?
Motorway is committed to acting fairly and responsibly, by confirming your right to sell the car and identifying beneficiaries of the estate.
You don’t need to provide any documents before accepting an offer. But it helps to know what paperwork you need in advance, as the sale can be quick.
We ask for the death certificate and part of the will to:
- protect all parties and make sure the sale is valid
- confirm the vehicle owner has died
- confirm you are entitled to sell or have authority to act on behalf of the person who is
We only request to see the page of the will showing the named executors. The entire document is not required.
We always aim to minimise the amount of documentation required of you, as we appreciate the sensitivity.
If you have a grant of probate, confirmation, administration, or a letter from a solicitor confirming the death and your right to sell, we will not request a will or death certificate.
