Can I sell a car on Motorway on behalf of someone else?
If the car you're selling is registered to someone else — like a family member or friend — we need that person (the registered Keeper) to confirm they're happy for you to sell it. We call this Keeper Authorisation.
What you need to do (as the Seller)
During your verification steps, you'll see a step called Keeper Authorisation Link.
Simply share a unique link with the registered Keeper — by email, SMS, WhatsApp, or copy and paste it however works best for you. Once they've completed their verification, you can continue with yours.
Your steps will look like this:
- Consent
- Keeper Authorisation Link ← share this with the Keeper
- Driving licence
- Selfie
- V5C (logbook)
- Finance settlement letter (if applicable)
- Proof of address (if applicable)
What the Keeper needs to do
The Keeper will receive your link and complete a short identity check — this happens on a secure webpage, not in the Motorway app.
They'll need to:
- Take a photo of the front of their driving licence
- Take a selfie
- Agree to the terms & conditions
That's it. The Keeper doesn't need a Motorway account — just the link you send them.
If you are selling a company vehicle
We’ll need a signed letter of authorisation and a form of ID from a Company Director.
If you’re selling a vehicle on probate – on behalf of someone who has passed away
